Hima wins 5th Gold in 20 days with season-best time of 52.09sec; MP Jabir also bags gold

India’s sensational sprinter Hima Das has continued her dream run by winning her fifth gold of the month. Hima Das was back to her 400 meter competition, and she finished the race with a season best time of 52.09s. Even though the timing is below her personal best of 50.79 seconds, she seems to be in the right track. Her personal best was achieved at the Jakarta Asian Games where she narrowly missed out to make the World Championships qualifying mark.

The latest timing is better than her previous best in this season. It is Hima Das’s fitth gold medal since she won her first competitive race in Europe on July 2nd. She clocked 23.65 seconds in the 200 meters race, and eventually won her gold medal at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on July 2. After the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix, she went on to win her second 200 meter gold medal at the Kutno Athletics Meet, which was also held in Poland. In the 200 meter race held on 7th July, Hima Das won the gold as she clocked 23.97 seconds.

She then headed for the Kladno Athletics Meet in Czech Republic and on July 13th, she won the third 200 meter gold after clocking 23.43 seconds. At the Tabor Athletics Meet held in Czech Republic, she won the fourth gold medal in the same event.

This was the first 400 meter competition for the 19 year old sprinter from Assam, who is also called as the “Dhing Express”. Earlier, she really struggled to finish 400 meter race in the Asian Athletics Championship in April due to back problems.

India’s MP Jabir also won a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles race, where he clocked 49.66 seconds. At the same time, Mohammad Anas could only manage a third-place in the 200 meter in which he clocked 20.95 seconds. Nirmal Noah Tom won the silver in the 200 meter event with a timing of 46.05s.
